Native American Heritage Month
November marks the beginning of Native American Heritage Month! This month is dedicated to celebrating the culture, traditions, history and contributions of the Native American and Alaska Native communities. And also a very important time to educate the public about tribes, traditions and culture of the Native peoples across the nation.Last summer, our first week at Camp Commotion was called "La Tierra and Indigenous Solidarity", where we encouraged our campers to think about their own roots and how they are connected to the earth as our collective home. We also keep our preschool library stocked with books about Indigenous identity and history, with books such as Fry Bread and We Are Water Protectors! During this month one of the ways you can honor and celebrate the indigenous peoples whose land we walk on everyday, is to know what land you’re on as many native ancestral lands are unceded. Project Commotion's studio sits on the unceded ancestral lands of the Muwekma and Ramaytush Ohlone people. To find out whose land you live on, visit native-land.ca or for more resources check out the link in our link-tree
